We are committed to implementing the Kimberley Vernacular Handbook in stages. Part one of the Handbook relates to general information that can be applied to the whole of the Kimberley, part two is specific to Broome conditions. Detailed information relating to the major Kimberley towns below will be available in the near future and added to the Handbook.

Kununurra

The gateway to the spectacular East Kimberley region, Kununurra is a town in northern Western Australia near the border of the Northern Territory.

A vibrant centre with modern services, the local facilities support intensive agriculture, mining and tourism sectors. Regularly in the media, the development of regions agricultural lands and Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project has cemented Kununura's position as one of the leading food bowls of Australia.

Derby

Derby is a supply point for the Kimberley's pastoral, mining, oil and tourist industries. The western terminus of the scenic Gibb River Road, which traverses some of the Kimberley's most spectacular cliff, river and gorge country, Derby has its own port and provides an access point to other towns in the region.
