Digital Canopies
Artist: Bruce Ramus
As the sun sets over Yagan Square, the Digital Canopies transform the space into a canvas of light and colour. Inspired by the natural contours of Lake Goologoolup—once a vital meeting place and resource for the Whadjuk people—the canopies blend function with artistry.
By day, the curving canopies provide welcome shade and mirror the amphitheatre’s organic form. By night, the underside comes alive with a spectacular light installation, programmable to algin with events and art showcases.
Extending beyond the main amphitheatre, a second, smaller canopy shelters the upper deck of the Horseshoe Lane building. Together, these architectural forms draw visitors upward to explore Yagan Square’s elevated spaces.
