Newman - Overview

Newman revitalisation

The vision for Newman is to build a more sustainable economy and diverse community with a greater sense of permanence.

To accommodate the growing population, a new town square, shopping facilities, residential and business opportunities have all been implemented.

Newman is situated approximately 1,186 kilometres north of Perth via the Great Northern Highway, and just 9 kilometres  north of the Tropic of Capricorn.

Originally established in 1968 by a subsidiary of BHP to support the Mt Whaleback mine, Newman has become a bustling town of 6,000 and is set to more than double to 15,000 by 2035 due to  the Western Australian State Government’s Pilbara Cities initiative and strong demand for iron ore exports.
